A domain name is the address used to find your company online.
It's what you type in the browser address bar to go to a specific website ‘URL’ and what follows the @ sign in an email address.
For example:
URL: http://www.fizzdot.com/view_page.php?section_name=home
Domain name: www.fizzdot.com
Registered domain name: fizzdot.com
A short, memorable domain name can make the difference between a successful and less successful website.
Having a domain name that is easy for your customers and potential customers to remember, that matches your company and or brand name and that makes sense for the product or service that you sell is important.

If you are a local business then your strategy may be different than if you are an international business as to what extension you use. Also you may want to stop competitors getting the name and cover potential misspellings so that your site is found.
For example try these:
Domain name costs vary but none are very expensive – typically from £3 to £10 a year. The longest legal domain name ( not including subdomains or suffixes) is 63 characters starting with a letter or number but most humans will find that difficult so generally it is thought that shorter is better. Finding a domain name now can be difficult as many are taken, so sometimes some lateral thinking is required.
