Many companies are interested in the possibilities of content management, to help them build websites which are easy to maintain.
There are a vast range of commercial and open source (source code that is available to all free of charge and that does not have licensing restrictions that limit use, modification, or redistribution) content management systems (CMS).
One thing we have learned is that every organisation has unique needs.
For example if your a medium to large organisation where the CMS:
- will manage both the intranet / extranet and internet website
- will be enterprise-wide
and a wide range of content will be published, such as:
- simple pages
- complex pages, with specific layout and presentation
- dynamic information sourced from databases, etc
- training materials online manuals (policy & procedures, HR, etc)
- general business documents
- hundreds of pages
- extensive linking between pages
then you have a completely different need from another organisation where just the website will be managed by the marketing department or a retailer or wholesaler that needs an e-commerce system.
Selecting a CMS is important. It's critical that the system meets your current and future needs.
The single most important activity is to identify your business goals and requirements. Only once you have a full list of requirements are you in a position to decide.
Spending time on these initial phases reduces the business risks and the project is much more likely to do what the users need at a lower cost.
Naturally we will help with all of this.
